Ive been reviewing on Yelp since 2012 but Yelp still doesnt offer a fully functional mobile app or mobile website, cant function offline like Trip Advisor, and is still skewed towards downtown Toronto users.
In a large city of millions like Toronto, Yelps Top of lists should be balanced between suburban & downtown locations like blogTOs Top 10 lists are, and their yearly "Elite" team should include suburban top reviewers. There should be as many suburban restaurant and shop reviews in the suburbs as downtown but Trip Advisor has a much better selection of suburban reviews. The search function defaults to "current location" and doesnt allow a proper search function by neighbourhood and includes irrelevant locations and ads nowhere near the neighbourhood. Brampton is not in Etobicoke! You should have an "Airport" neighbourhood listed for travellers, there are a lot of decent restaurants on the Airport Dixon Road strip. When you live in a predominantly residential neighbourhood i.e. Weston, the "current location" as the default isnt helpful. Toronto does not end north of Bloor Street or east of the Danforth & or west of Runnymede. Yelp asks if every place has bicycle parking, which most locations dont have and arent legally required to have, but Yelp does not rate places for accessibility, which IS a legal requirement for newer buildings, nor does it ask if there are ground floor washrooms without stairs. This would be far more useful and universally needed than bicycle parking. The link on the mobile site for the desktop site is hard to find and Yelp doesnt remember your choice but instead keeps nagging users to use the mobile site or the app. Messages, Check Ins, Friends and Tips still dont work properly on the mobile site or app so you should stop preventing smartphone users from choosing the desktop site.
